Pictured: not the exact same Pacer, but could be without too much work.
Denver's posts about potentially buying an Eagle got me searching my local classifieds, where !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I did not know that there were any survivors. That is the main reason why I really want this one. Unicorn factor is high here. Sadly it's 3 hours away, and I don't have $1800 right now.

Speaking as someone who has Craigslisted in search of Pacers, that is a steal.

I'd have to turn it in to this:

I forgot about this. The temptation is rising.

No. Everyone who has a Pacer they bought on a whim did that. This one is an awesome hazelnut brown/bark brown and needs to be preserved that way.

It seemed like a good deal for something that unique, old, and with that many miles in that condition. I had just never seen one for sale, so I didn't know for sure. I reallllllly wish I had the cash.

They're surprisingly reliable, or so I've heard.

That looks a lot like the Pacer that Garth's girlfriend had in Wayne's World 2, except hers was the wagon:

Lots of miles, but those motors are bullet proof and the color's perfect. Nice price. I'm not sure where that back seat came from, though. It doesn't look original unless they did some fancy reupholstering. I've owned a bunch of Pacers. They can be a pain to work on, but mechanical parts are easy to get and they're great fun. Beg, borrow, or steal and bring it home. You'll be an instant celebrity.

Having never been inside one, it was hard to tell if the back seat just looked weird because of lighting, or because it just didn't match. Viewing it on my phone probably doesn't help, either. I'm trying to think of some way to make this happen, but i think I'm going to have to pass on it.

It's weird that they would replace the rear seat as they usually don't get much wear. Maybe someone threw away the old one to make the car a makeshift wagon/hauler. There is a lot of room back there. Pacers are out there, so another will come along, but prices for good ones are going up. I'm thinking about jumping on this one as I sold my last Pacer a few years ago and I miss driving a fishbowl.

No. You do NOT want one. I had a 77 cream colored one back in the day and it was a horrendous little POS.
Do. Not. Buy.

Do you have specific points on which they aren't? I'm curious, because apart from a general association of AMC with weirdness and questionable build quality (often on later models), I've never heard of any particularly glaring points.
I have data on them through the first 80,000 miles in a magazine somewhere. For that period, they had no particularly hideous gremlins (hurr hurr). Past that point, I don't have anything. They're going to be significantly better than a Vega at any rate.

I can see now (since your posts aren't approved yet, I had to check your kinja for them) that it's a personal experience thing. Apart from weak engine/drivability, door hinge bushing issues, ignition module overheating, some steering issues, and a couple things that are just bizarre (loose fuel tank baffle, electrical degradation of trans bearings) I haven't found that much in the way of a universal giant sour note. I don't suppose you have the time to sit down and write a story about the whole thing? It seems like the story of a lemon Pacer is just the sort of thing Oppo authorship was made for.

I could. But make sure the lights are on and you have your comfort blankie on hand when you read it. It's a true American horror story. ;)

I just requested Oppo authorship for you , so you can write that as a full post - and whatever else you feel like playing show and tell with. Or you can just reply inline if you'd prefer not to. Just one burning question, though. Did it have the Navajo blanket seat covers?

Yep, with the cream color exterior with the finest (cough) wood type panel trim.

My ex-wife's 1979 Pacer Wagon is taking up space in my driveway and it's free! Come get it!
